Typical hollow point pistol bullets deliver good performance at modest velocities, but have a tendency to expand too quickly and sacrifice penetration at the higher velocities achieved with lever action guns.

A lever action upgrade

Lever action calibers like the 30-30 and the 35 Remington had been left behind in bullet development. Stuck with round nose bullets that looked like they had the streamlining of a dinosaur they could not reach the ballistics of newer chamberings. Hornady changed that with the introduction of the Flex-Tip bullet. It is a bullet with a spire point profile that can be loaded in a tubular magazine. The 200 gr. Flex-Tip improved the accuracy of my 35 Remington and brought the cartridge into the 21st century. That is a pretty big accomplishment when you think about it.

Ballistic performance.

I enjoy these in my Marlin 35 Remington. They blow up at modest 35 Whelen levels. I get my deer but no penetration. They may work better at 358 Winchester ballistics. I will let you know as I have a AR 10 chambered in said caliber. Offside, extremely accurate!!!
