The Hornady® SST® (Super Shock Tip) is designed to deliver tremendous shock on impact while expanding quickly and reliably, particularly at higher velocities.

Flat shooting and deadly accurate, it's an ideal bullet for whitetails, as well as most North American game animals from antelope to moose and similar-sized African plains game. The SST® creates a devastatingly large wound channel.

  • POLYMER TIP: Upon impact, the hard polymer tip drives into the lead core like a wedge, initiating lightning-fast, yet controlled expansion.
  • SECANT OGIVE, BOATTAIL PROFILE: Incorporating the pioneering Hornady secant ogive design, the tapered point, increased bearing surface and more aerodynamic profile, combined with a boattail base, makes the SST® more efficient with less drag and greater stability.
  • CANNELURE: A mid-body cannelure helps keep the core and jacket together while providing a consistent, accurate crimp during the loading process.
  • INTERLOCK® RING: This Hornady exclusive design mechanically locks the core and jacket together to maintain bullet integrity during expansion, ensuring maximum weight retention and increasing the chances of complete pass-throughs.

My Mauser loves them

Better than average accuracy in my 1941 Mauser. Used one to drop a whitetail in its tracks at 110yards this year. I highly recommend any SST in any caliber. they simply have worked for me, time and again.

8mm Hornady 170gr. SST

Great bullets very accurate, finding the COL was the only problem. Once I found the COL , they are great out to 200- 300 yards

8mm 170 sst bullet

I know from experience that this bullet when shot in old k98 still has enough knock down power at 450 yards to take game.
Good BC for a medium weight for caliber hunting bullet. As a reloader I test and develop loads so it would be nice if this bullet was more readily available. I have been looking for over 3 years. Glad to finally get a few.

8mm 170gr Hornady SST

I love these bullets in my 8mm mauser. Very accurate and devastating on deer. I was running low and have looked for them everywhere for at least 4 years. I got an email from Grafs saying they were in stock so I purchased 5 boxes which was the limit. Were shipped quickly. They should last me the rest of my life.

Accurate

By far the most accurate bullet that I have tried in my 8mms. Terminal performance is good too. At least as long as you keep the impact speed below 2,800 fps.

A Big Step up from the Old Round Nose

I have a lot of the old Hornady 170 grs RN 8mm. Its terminal performance leaves nothing to be desired and it is effective on deer. It's ballistic performance is less than awe inspriring.

The 170 grs SST is transformational. There aren;t vast amounts of 8mm bullets out there and the higher BC and SD of the SST gives a rifle chambered in 8x57, for example, a significant increase in reach. This will make my interwar Mauser sporter much more effective on mule deer and elk.

Excellent Performance

This has proved to be the best performer in my 98k sporter. Just about every other I have tried falls short. With aging eyes and no scope, I can still hold 2" at 100 yd and respectable hunting accuracy out to 300 yd.

8mm Hornaday SST Bullet

Very happy to find a spritzer 170gr 8mm bullet "not easy". I haven't loaded it yet, I have confidence in Hornaday quality. Looking forward to some good bench time. T J Weahry

Accuracy

Excellent sub moa accuracy at 100 yards with this bullet. One shot drops on feral hogs and whitetail. Going for elk next season and bringing these with me. Excellent product

Hornady Quality!

I have not used these particular bullets as of yet but I know from past experience Hornady does not make junk. I need a medium weight bullet for an 8x57 Mauser I am building. I plan to Target shoot informally and whitetail hunt with them. In all of my other rifles I use Hornady and Accubonds.
