The Cowboy .45 Special is a case that is optimized for use with light loads in .45 Colt caliber revolvers for Cowboy Action Shooting. Light loads with excessive airspace are a recipe for case splits and erratic function. By using the Cowboy .45 Special case, with its .45 Colt rim and .45 Auto length, the problem no longer exists. While many claim that .45 Auto load data can be used in this caliber, it is important to realize the limitations of the firearm it is chambered in and only use loads that fall within the pressure range of that firearm. Generally these can be loaded using .45 Colt dies and a modified (shortened) crimp die, or .45 Auto Rim roll crimp die.

Starline 45 Cowboy Brass

This works particularly well in Uberti revolvers having a 45 ACP cylinder. Since there is no requirement in a single action to have half- or full-moon clips like in a double action revolver, it appears that Uberti has set up the rim clearance on their 45 ACP cylinders to match that of their 45 Colt cylinders, with the cheerful result that Starline 45 Cowboy brass works perfectly in Uberti single action 45 ACP cylinders. The brass is of excellent quality and loads and crimps beautifully after trimming them all to uniform length.

45 Cowboy Special - Hugely Efficient!

This round enables the shooter to use .45 Colt pistols with lighter loads and no case-splits. This round is GREAT! The .45 Cowboy Special is ridiculously fun! It does everything a full-size .45 Colt round can do "at the range." It is accurate, has low recoil, and does not bruise your hand after a long day! I have this round set up with my .45 ACP settings on my progressive press. The only thing I need to change is the shellplate. If you use .45 Colt pistols, this is a super option! It saves your .45 Colt brass for more serious occasions.
